چکیده

This paper presents a novel class of self-organizing sensing agents that form a swarm and learn the static spatial process of interest through noisy measurements from neighbors for various global goals. The spatial phenomenon of interest is modeled by a Gaussian process. Each sensing agent maintains its own prediction of the Gaussian process based on measurements from neighbors. A set of biologically inspired navigation strategies are derived by exploiting the predictive posterior statistics. A unified way to prescribe a global goal for the group of agents so that a high-level behavior builds on a set of lowlevel simple behavior modules. As a result, collective mobility of agents emerges from a specified global goal. The proposed cooperatively learning control consists of motion coordination based on the recursive estimation of an unknown field of interest with measurement noise. The convergence properties of the proposed coordination algorithm for different situations and global goals are investigated by a simulation study.

Navigation-based Optimization of Stochastic Deployment Strategies for a Robot Swarm to Multiple Sites

We present a biologically inspired approach to the dynamic assignment and reassignment of a swarm of homogeneous robots to multiple locations, with applications in search and rescue, environmental monitoring, and task allocation. Our work is inspired by experimental studies of ant house hunting and empirical models that predict the behavior of the colony that is faced with a choice between mult...

Solving a Path Planning Problem in a Partially Known Environment using a Swarm Algorithm

This paper proposes a path planning strategy for an Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV) navigating in a partially known environment. Global path planning is performed by first using a spatial database of the region to be traversed containing selected attributes such as height data and soil information from a suitable spatial database. The database is processed using a biomimetic swarm algorithm tha...

Collective robotic search using hybrid techniques: Fuzzy logic and swarm intelligence inspired by nature

This paper presents two new strategies for navigation of a swarm of robots for target/mission focused applications including landmine detection and firefighting. The first method presents an embedded fuzzy logic approach in the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm robots and the second method presents a swarm of fuzzy logic controllers, one on each robot. The framework of both strategies...

A Navigation Algorithm for Swarm Robotics Inspired by Slime Mold Aggregation

This article presents a novel bio-inspired navigation principle for swarm robotics that is based on a technique of signal propagation that was inspired by slime mold. We evaluated this strategy in a variety of simulation experiments that simulates a collective cleaning scenario. This scenario includes several sub-tasks like exploration, information propagation and path finding. Using the slime ...
